Synopsis

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL delves deep into the nation's recent and often bone-chillingly intense obsession with physical perfection. Centering on 12-year old supermodel in the making Gerren Taylor, this eye-opening documentary from Darryl Roberts features commentary on the growing focus on Photoshop, plastic surgeries and Paris Hiltons and the deceitful and dangerous picture they present to young girls across the country. AMERICA THE BEAUTFUL features scenes with gossip columnist Ted Casablanca, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton and rocker Anthony Kiedis.

Director's Statement

Darryl Roberts, the writer, producer, and director of "America The Beautiful," says Considering that we're challenging an industry that has been assaulting our self-esteem for a long time, this isn't just a movie opening, it's a movement. It's how each and every one of us can say ENOUGH!" The reason I believe a movie about our unhealthy obsession with beauty is important is because it really effects young girls. The average girl, 8 to 18 years of age, doesn't like her body, doesn't feel she's attractive and is contemplating dieting or even worse, plastic surgery.  This is very unhealthy because as we all know, a healthy self-esteem is the engine that makes you assertive, confident and ready to take on the world. Unfortunately, this has been taken away from a  lot of us, so that some beauty companies can  sell more products and the CEO's of these  companies can drive Bentley's."

Darryl Roberts

Darryl Roberts, President of Sensory Overload Entertainment, is an established writer, producer, and director.  He is celebrated both in the U.S. and internationally for How U Like Me Now, the highly acclaimed independent film about relationships in the 90's.

Mr. Roberts has also amassed experience in the radio and television industry.  He began his career as an on-air personality for radio station WKKC-FM in Chicago. He used his earnings as a salesman at Seagram's wine division to produce his own local cable television program entitled Backstage with Darryl Roberts.

Roberts joined WMAQ-TV's Sunday morning news program as host of Hollywood Hype, an insider's look at the entertainment industry. His segment rapidly gained a strong following and was rated among the top entertainment features in Chicago.

Mr. Roberts has directed some of Europe's hottest commercials and music videos. Most notable of the bunch was the music video for Gloria Gaynor's European comeback, entitled I Never Knew.
