Embassy Suites drawing closer to opening

The neighborhood around the George R. Brown continues to evolve as rapid construction progress unfolds at the new Embassy Suites Houston Downtown. Why, by george, it actually looks like a hotel that’s on the verge of opening.

Well, not quite, but general manager Ron Gwin does anticipate a soft opening for the 262-unit property in mid-February with a grand-opening event slated for March 1. The first large group booking is the National Association of Corrosion Engineers that meets at the GRB March 10-19.

The new hotel has topped out at 22 floors and the exterior construction scaffolding has largely disappeared. Gwin reports that the building shell is completely enclosed and workers are focusing on the interior floors of the hotel, which oversees Discovery Green park.
