We are very excited to announce that Niko Niko's will be our Market Square Park cafe/kiosk operator! They have built an inconic brand in Houston over the past 30 years and this will be their first foray into a new market-- small but certainly a BIG deal for us and downtown.
Dimitri Fetokakis, the owner of Niko Niko's, is very involved in his Montrose neighborhood and we know he will emmerse himself in the downtown community as well, that is one of the reasons we thought he was the perfect choice. Then of course, there's the food. People trek to Market Square for Treebeards (Cajun) and Les Givral's (Vietnamese) and now we've got the Greek!
This location will be walk-up, window service with all seating located outside within the park. Reminiscent of the original Niko's many years ago. The menu won't be as comprehensive as the Montrose location but the favorites will be here-- falafel, gyros, kebabs and much, much more.
We're still working out their hours of operation although they will definately be open for breakfast, lunch and early dinner. We do plan on having some event programming in the park so the cafe will be open later during those event days-- stay tuned for more info!
Once complete, Market Square Park will without a doubt be a wonderful neighborhood gathering place. The goal is to not complicate the design but to make the park pretty, functional and well lit--a space that will compliment the Historic District.
So far park construction is on schedule so we're still looking at a summer (late July/early August) opening! If you go by you can now see the dog run taking shape on the Milam side of the park and the cafe and trellis going up on the Travis side.
