Taking it to the streets

With the spate of delightful autumn weather we’ve enjoyed in Houston in recent weeks, it’s no wonder street activity has flourished in response. Today, a nice outdoor double-play took place within easy walking distance of each other.

The City Hall Farmers Market ringed the Reflection Pool with more than 40 vendors of local and organic fruits and vegetables, locally prepared lunch items, baked goods, ethnic foods and more. Managed by Urban Harvest, the weekly Wednesday market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There were nice crowds today. I found great veggies today and look forward to discovering new treats next time. Make a point to check it out next week.

Several blocks away, Jones Plaza Live unfurled in the heart of the Theater District. The five-week series of free entertainment runs through November 24. It’s a great place to meet friends for lunch or grab dinner before an evening show. The plaza’s bistro is open for business and is bolstered by food trucks as well as wine and coffee bars. Today, the new series was kicked off with a performance by the cast from "Shrek the Musical" now appearing at Hobby Center.

Finally, the new Niko Niko’s outlet at the newly revitalized Market Square continues to go gangbusters. We hear downtown office dwellers are descending on the popular Niko Niko’s en masse.

All in all, it’s a great time to be wearing comfortable shoes while checking out downtown Houston. The weather won’t get better than it is right now.
