The Downtown District and Spacetaker are excited to present a pop-up window installation by Houston artist Stephanie Toppin at Char Bar alongside Market Square Park.
In her soft sculpture installation entitled Self Portrait, Toppin uses a variety of fabrics to create a landscape of panels that explode with color, texture, patterns, and layers to form a three dimensional interpretation of her current abstract self-portrait painting. “Self Portrait” will hang in the front window of Char Bar for viewers to enjoy through summer.
This piece is a perfect fit for Char Bar's windows, as it is the only bar in town where you can get custom made suit as you sip on classic cocktails. The business began in the 1930's as the Duke of Hollywood Tailors and more than 60 years later, the owners grandson, Mike Shapiro, made the decision to open Char Bar to help sustain the business.
Join us on Tuesday, March 13 for an opening reception at this historic haunt to celebrate the exhibition at Char Bar from 6 to 9 pm. The event is free and open to the public and there will be a chas bar with drink specials. Click here to add to your Facebook calendar.
