Musiqa and Houston Ballet II proudly present Musiqa in Motion, a captivating blend of new music and dance. The program includes the world premiere of Drip Drop, a new work by Musiqa’s 2023 Emerging Composer Commission winner Luis Quintana, alongside other groundbreaking performances. Performances will be on:
- Saturday, February 8, at 7:30 p.m.
- Sunday, February 9, at 2:30 p.m.
This extraordinary program includes:
• Odyssey - Choreographed by Sara Guo and performed to Unconditional (Following a Bird) by Italian composer Ezio Bosso. A heartfelt farewell performance for graduating Houston Ballet II dancers.
• Saudade - Choreographed by Houston Ballet soloist Jacquelyn Long and set to Gustave Le Gray by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw. This introspective piano work is inspired by groundbreaking French photographer Gustave Le Gray.
• Dzov Yerku Kooynov [Sea of Two Colors] - By Armenian-American composer Mary Kouyoumdjian, inspired by the life of Komitas, the father of Armenian national music, and his haunting legacy tied to the Armenian genocide.
• Drip Drop - A world premiere by Luis Quintana, Musiqa’s 2023 Emerging Composer Commission winner, supported by the French Consulate General in Houston and Villa Albertine. Quintana’s interdisciplinary work showcases his international accolades and multicultural artistry.

• Musicians: Doug DeVries (flute), Yevgeny Dokshansky (clarinet), Jacob Schafer (violin), Christopher Ellis (cello), and Zhu Zhu (piano).
• Dancers: Quinton Brooks, Kieryn Brophy, Nathaniel Geis, Yeva Hrytsak, Ayumi Kobayashi, Henry Lichtmacher, Jordan Long, Olivia McBain, Macy Richter, Joan Sempere Martinez, Lexi Utz, Edouard Wormser, and Garrett Yut.
