For over 40 years, CHI has guided Downtown's evolution from a central business district in the 1980s into a dynamic, mixed-use neighborhood—home to residents, world-class entertainment and investment that continues to fuel a livable, thriving Downtown.
Working alongside Houston Downtown Management District (HDMD) and Downtown Redevelopment Authority (DRA), CHI advances economic development, shapes major infrastructure projects, and drives policy initiatives that enhance Downtown and sustain long-term growth.

- Tripled Downtown's residential population through the Downtown Living Initiative.
- Spearheaded efforts to attract major sports teams, cultural institutions and public spaces.
- Led adaptive reuse projects that revitalized historic buildings into thriving developments.

Major Initiatives

Some of the current initiatives that we're overseeing include:
- Addressing Street Homelessness — Convening key partners in advancing Houston's nationally recognized strategy toward ending street homelessness through a combination of housing, health resources, and law enforcement.
- Shaping the Future of Mobility — Partnering on the North Houston Highway Improvement Project to enhance connectivity, create parks and trails, support flood mitigation, and reconnect neighborhoods through a transformative highway cap project.
- Reimagining Main Street — Transforming seven blocks of Downtown's vital avenue into a vibrant pedestrian promenade with greenery, shade structures, patio seating, and space for dynamic programming, all while linking key districts.
