Houston's Growing Downtown Residential Population

The next five years will bring the greatest shift to Downtown Houston's urban core since the city began its renewal back in the mid 1990’s. The city’s focus on growing its Downtown residential population aims to double the approximately 10,140 residents within the Downtown District’s boundaries (and over 68,000 within greater Downtown).

Downtown living attracts young urban professionals working downtown, empty nesters, reverse commuters and, yes, even small families. Living options range from penthouse apartments to cool and funky lofts at all price points, thanks to the Downtown Living Initiative – a program which awards $15,000 per unit in tax rebates to developers who create homes or multifamily projects.
