Artist: Alexis Pye

Pye brings together four works spanning domesticity and the outdoors, the quiet space between leisure and wonder. Collaged into a single composition, "You Really Livin," "Contemplation," "Enamored," and "Wonder" build a narrative of belonging that is rooted in Houston and reaches beyond it.

About the Artist

Alexis Pye (b. 1995, Detroit, MI) explores portraiture to reimagine the Black body beyond social constructs. Her subjects inhabit lush, imaginative environments that evoke joy, playfulness, and resilience. Integrating painting with embroidery and punch-stitch, Pye blurs boundaries between art and craft, pairing labor-intensive techniques with expressive imagery.

She earned her BFA from the University of Houston and has exhibited at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Blaffer Art Museum, and Women & Their Work. A recipient of the Juror’s Choice Prize at Texas Southern University, she has completed residencies at Project Row Houses and Skowhegan. Her work is held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
