Christ Church Cathedral invites you to a special Evensong on All Saints’ Sunday.

Join the Cathedral community as the Cathedral Choir celebrates this Principal Feast Day with a beautiful service featuring special music. This is the first of six Choral Evensongs we will offer throughout the year to mark major liturgical feast days. It is the perfect opportunity to invite friends, neighbors, and anyone curious about the Cathedral's rich musical and worship traditions.

What is Evensong?
Evensong, or Evening Prayer, is a service of worship unique to the Anglican tradition (of which the Episcopal Church is a part). It is the service sung daily by the choirs of Anglican cathedrals around the world. Unlike a typical Sunday Eucharist, Evensong is characterized by its beauty, tranquility, and focus on music and scripture. It is a meditative service where the choir does most of the "work" of the liturgy, allowing the congregation to sit back, listen, and contemplate the divine.

Key features of Evensong include:
Choral Music: Nearly all of the liturgy (the responses, psalms, and canticles) is sung by the choir, often featuring elaborate musical settings that have been used for centuries.
Silence and Reflection: The service is structured to be quiet and reflective, making it a perfect moment to transition from the busy weekend into the week ahead.
Structure: It consists primarily of two canticles (songs based on scripture, traditionally the Magnificat and the Nunc Dimittis), the singing of psalms, scripture readings, and prayers.

You do not need to be familiar with the Episcopal Church to enjoy Evensong. Simply come, listen, and let the music and the prayers lift your spirit.
