About the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, founded in 1923, is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Administered regionally by Harris County Department of Education, the program encourages artistic expression and literary talent among students in grades 7–12. Each year, thousands of submissions are judged for originality, technical skill, and personal voice. Regional Gold Key winners advance to national adjudication, where notable artists and writers have historically launched their careers.
