Details

Houston bar pros Jason Lowery (Bovine & Barley, Proof, Tikila’s) and Steve Rogers (Bar 5015, The Warwick, Prospect Park) partnered with David Anderson III (The Heist Agency) and social media marketing pro-Mikos Adams to bring the project to life. Tucked behind a vintage record store in the heart of downtown, Off the Record features curated, themed vinyl nights with a lineup of resident DJs spinning eclectic, immersive sounds across genres and eras.

Off the Record draws inspiration from George Daniels, Anderson’s uncle, a music industry legend who grew up in Houston’s Fifth Ward. His grandmother – and Anderson’s great-grandmother – Alice Harmon Guillory owned Mama Alice’s Cafe off Lyons Avenue. Daniels moved to Chicago and opened the iconic George’s Music Room in 1969. It became the largest independent record store in the Midwest, earning a reputation for helping to launch artists’ careers, and made a name for itself by catering to all demographics and genres.
