A living history center in Downtown Houston, Sam Houston Park is a City of Houston Protected Landmark and a designated State of Texas Historical Site.
Established in 1899 as a 20-acre Victorian-landscaped park, today it offers open green spaces amid monuments to Houston’s corporate and civic heritage.
The park is home to The Heritage Society, which preserves Houston’s history through restored historic buildings spanning different eras. Highlights include the Kellum-Noble House, Houston’s oldest surviving house that once served as a school; an 1823 log cabin; an 1891 church built by German and Swiss immigrants; and a 1905 mansion.
Each structure reflects the lives and efforts of those who built and shaped Houston.
