Follow the Lights: 12 Holiday Villages Across Downtown

Why settle for one holiday destination when Downtown has 12?

This year's City Lights Downtown Holiday Magic connects some of Houston's favorite destinations into one festive experience, stretching from the North Pole to the South Pole.

Start at Winter Wonderlawn at POST Houston, where more than 100,000 lights and two 25-foot Christmas trees illuminate the rooftop against Houston's skyline. Then wander through Tinsel Town at Market Square Park, home to holiday movie nights, dueling pianos and festive markets.

In the Theater District, Deck the Trees at Alley Theatre fills the lobby with 60 uniquely decorated holiday trees and wreaths, while Jingle Town at Lynn Wyatt Square introduces a 42-foot Giving Tree supporting Kids' Meals.

Along Main Street, Christmas on Main brings seasonal entertainment and holiday specials to the Promenade. Nearby, Deck the Hall at City Hall celebrates the season with the Mayor's holiday tree lighting and festivities.

Head toward the South Pole for Astros Light Up the Park at Daikin Park, Holidays at the Marquis, ICE at Discovery Green, Peppermint Plaza at Avenida Houston, Land of Sweets at Hilton Americas-Houston and Twinkle Town at Trebly Park.

Each village has something different waiting to be discovered. Explore them all or pick a few favorites and make an evening of it.

Ice Skating, Holiday Lights & Family Traditions

Some holiday memories are worth making year after year.

At Discovery Green, Houston's outdoor ice rink returns for another season of skating beneath the skyline. Kick things off at Frostival, enjoy themed skating nights or catch the rink illuminated by H-Town Holiday Lights, created by Houston artist H-Town Frankie.

For a different kind of winter wonderland, Astros Light Up the Park transforms Daikin Park with 12 themed light exhibits celebrating Houston and the Astros, complete with a musical light show, a new sledding hill and opportunities to see Orbit and Astros Santa on select nights.

And don't overlook the holiday magic inside Downtown's hotels! At Hilton Americas-Houston, Land of Sweets features a life-size chocolate display crafted from more than 1,000 pounds of chocolate. Meanwhile, Holidays at the Marquis brings an alpine-inspired winter retreat to the Marriott Marquis Houston, with festive décor, seasonal experiences and cozy lodge-inspired spaces.

Santa Sightings, Holiday Movies & Festive Family Fun

Looking for a little holiday magic the kids will talk about all the way home?

At Twinkle Town in Trebly Park, Bark the Halls invites families and their four-legged friends to celebrate with Santa photos and festive activities. There's even a dog treat bar and a paw-print ornament craft station for pups.

At Tinsel Town in Market Square Park, cozy up for a screening of Elf, join the Holiday Scavenger Hunt or break out your most outrageous holiday sweater for a special edition of Blanket Bingo.

Discovery Green is also bringing seasonal favorites to the big screen with Frozen, while POST Houston's Winter Wonderlawn offers Santa Snowy Sundays after Thanksgiving.

For a classic Houston holiday celebration, don't miss Deck the Hall at City Hall, featuring live entertainment, a holiday market, Santa photos and a fireworks finale.

Holiday Shows, Music & Nights Out

Holiday plans aren't just for the kids!

The Theater District is getting into the spirit with A Christmas Carol at Alley Theatre, along with The Night Shift Before Christmas. The Alley also introduces Tinsel & 'Tinis, a holiday cocktail party for a festive night out.

At Peppermint Plaza on Avenida Houston, Saturday evenings bring live holiday music beneath the lights, while Market Square Park's Deck the Keys serves up dueling pianos and seasonal sing-alongs.

Looking for something to do after work? Christmas on Main brings festive energy to the Main Street Promenade with Mid-Day on Main every Tuesday and Happy Hour on Main every Thursday. Grab a bite from a participating business, enjoy the street performances and spend a little more time Downtown.

And mark your calendar for Good Times on Main on December 19, when the Promenade hosts a holiday block party with live entertainment and local vendors.

Find Your Sweet Spot

The holiday magic doesn't end at the villages.

Scattered throughout Downtown, oversized candy-inspired installations and festive displays create a trail of Sweet Spots connecting parks and destinations.

Snap a photo beneath a peppermint arch, discover a gingerbread character along your walk or stop by the gumdrop stroll at Trebly Park.

Keep an eye out for the holiday candy arch at Preston and Main, the gingerbread lady at Allen's Landing and the holiday displays along Texas Avenue and McKinney Street.

They're the perfect excuse to take the scenic route, discover a new corner of Downtown and capture a few holiday photos along the way.

Park Once, Explore More

With so much happening across Downtown, the best holiday plans might be the ones that leave room to wander.

City Lights features designated Park Once zones near the North and South Poles, making it easier to park near your favorite destinations and explore nearby holiday villages on foot.

Want to see more? METRO's festive Holiday Express connects Downtown destinations, while Houston City Tours offers a holiday-themed panoramic bus tour for those who'd rather enjoy the lights from their seats.

Bring your favorite people, choose your starting point and see where the lights take you.
