Follow the Blue Hexagons: Via Futbol Helps Fans Navigate Downtown
As Houston gets ready to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup, Downtown is preparing for a moment unlike any other.
Fans, visitors, residents and workers will soon be moving through the heart of the city on their way to matches, watch parties, the FIFA Fan Festival in East Downtown, parks, transit stops and much more.
To help make those journeys easier, clearer and more comfortable, Via Futbol is now appearing along key Downtown pedestrian corridors.

What is Via Futbol
Via Futbol is a pedestrian wayfinding initiative designed to guide people along convenient walking routes to major World Cup destinations and activity centers.
The project uses a pattern of blue hexagons, wayfinding signage and designated Oasis Zones to help visitors find their way through Downtown and connect to the excitement happening across the city.

What to Look For
Along streets such as Texas Avenue, McKinney Street, Bagby Street, Rusk Street and Preston Street, pedestrians will notice blue hexagon markers leading the way.
These include vinyl decals along sidewalks and painted hexagons in select areas, creating a visible path through Downtown.
The route are designed to help connect people to destinations including POST Houston, METRORail platforms, Downtown districts, the FIFA Fan Festival in East Downtown and other major gathering points.
For first-time visitors, they serve as a simple visual cue: follow the blue hexagons to stay connected to the action.

Why It's Here
With hundreds of thousands of fans expected in Houston during World Cup activities, many visitors will be experiencing Downtown for the first time. Via Futbol is intended to make the experience of walking Downtown more intuitive, welcoming and comfortable.
The initiative helps answer a simple but important question: "Where should I go next?"
Whether someone is arriving by METRORail, heading toward the FIFA Fan Festival, exploring Downtown before a match, or looking for a place to rest along the way, Via Futbol is designed to make those connections easier.
It is also part of a broader effort to help Downtown feel ready, vibrant and accessible during one of the biggest global sporting events Houston has ever hosted.

What are Oasis Zones
In addition to the blue hexagon markers and wayfinding signage, Via Futbol includes Oasis Zones: places were people can pause, cool down and recharge while moving through Downtown.
Oasis Zones may include amenities such as seating, restrooms, shade, water stations and entertainment on select dates. They are intended to provide moments of relief along busy pedestrian routes, especially as visitors move between major destinations and event areas.
Oasis Zone locations include 1515 Texas Avenue, Market Square Park, Trebly Park, Discovery Green, SHell Energy Stadium, POST Houston and Houston Public Library.
Downtown is Ready
Via Futbol will remain in place for the duration of World Cup and Fan Festival activities, helping guide fans, visitors and Houstonians through Downtown during this historic stretch.
As the city prepares to welcome fans from around the world, the blue hexagons are part of a larger welcome mat—one designed to help people move comfortably, discover Downtown, and find their way to the fun.
