I-10 White Oak Bayou Project

Construction work is underway on segments of I-10 outside of Downtown that will elevate the main lanes out of the floodplain and reconstruct the Houston Avenue bridge. This may impact access to Downtown and immediately adjacent areas.

Current Updates

I-10 Westbound between I-45 & Houston Avenue: Will be reduced to 2 lanes through mid-2026.

During construction, expect ramp closures that connect I-10 East to I-45 North (through mid-2028), and I-45 South to I-10 West (through mid-2026).

  • For travelers from I-10 East to I-45 North: 
    • Continue to 610 North, then connect to I-45 North/South.
  • For travelers from I-45 South to I-10 West: 
    • Use I-10 East ramp, exit at McKee/Hardy Street
    • Left on Hardy, Left on Providence, use entrance ramp to I-10 West

Hamilton, Pease & Jefferson Closures

[11/14/2025]: Three closures impacting Hamilton, Pease and Jefferson Streets are scheduled to be in place from Wednesday, November 19, 2025 through Friday, March 20, 2026. 

These sections will be closed to install storm sewer infrastructure and undergo roadway construction.

Chartres Street Total Closure

[11/11/2025]: A total closure of Chartres Street from Commerce to Runnels will occur from Monday, November 17, 2025 at 9am through Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 6pm.

This section of Chartres Street will be completely closed to traffic to allow for storm sewer installation.

St. Emanuel Closure

[3/14/2025]: From March 13, 2025 to Sunday, January 31, 2026, portions of St. Emanuel Street and Capitol Street will be closed for demolition of multiple buildings.
