Where to find sweet, cold treats in Downtown Houston

The sweltering, sticky days of summer have officially arrived. If we’re sure about anything, it’s that the temperature isn’t dropping any time soon. Thankfully, Downtown has plenty of sweet treats and frozen drinks to help keep you cool throughout this sweat-inducing season we call summer.

Rosé The Day Away

There’s no summer sip as quintessential as rosé. We wait all year to enjoy this pink perfection, so why not kick it up a notch and enjoy it with a twist. Frosés are the perfect mix of slushie meets ice-cold thirst quencher, and they make a refreshing choice for your next outdoor hang.

Summery Seltzers

If you’re a fan of Saint Arnold Brewing Co., you know the city’s oldest craft brewery doesn't disappoint when it comes to creative beverages. This year, they’re throwing their name into the hard seltzer game! Superfine Seltzers use 100% real fruit to produce a deliciously enjoyable bevy to sip at your favorite concert [aka Road to River Revival], an Astros game or in the Beer Garden.

Milkshakes: not only do they bring all the boys to your yard, they’re also great for beating the heat! New York-based burger joint Shake Shack whips up these sweet, creamy treats in a variety of flavors, and we must say, ALL are worth a try. Our favorites? Cookies & Cream and Black & White. Keep an eye out for the special editions!

Another worthy mention: Frozen Custard. This rich dessert is the real deal! Spun fresh daily, the vanilla and chocolate options are a simple yet classic choice for any sizzling summer day.

Frappe You Say?

A day at Market Square Park is a day well spent. While you’re there, do yourself a favor and pick up a Baklava Frappe from Niko Niko’s. Made of delicious homemade baklava and blended with espresso and milk, this one-of-a-kind frappe is sure to bring some much-needed coolness to your afternoon.

Scoop, There It Is!

Is there any summer sweet more iconic than ice cream? Okay, okay, we may not have an ice cream shop, but what we do have is even better...gelato! This Italian food that never fails to please is smoother and silkier than ice cream, but just as enjoyable if you ask us! Pop by Phoenicia Specialty Foods for a few scoops of this melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful dessert.
