Instagrammable Spots in Downtown Houston: Holiday Edition

by Victoria Reid    December 4, 2020

Need a backdrop for this year’s holiday card? We’ve got you covered.

Now that you’ve finally found the ugliest of ugly sweaters, all you need is the perfect backdrop for your holiday cards and Instagram posts. From impeccably decorated trees to glittering light displays, these Downtown Houston spots are a Christmas lovers’ dream. After all, 'tis the season to be jolly!

Noel on Main Street | 📍 1021 Main
Nothing screams yuletide more than the larger-than-life “Noel” on Main Street. Located at Main Street Square, this dazzling display is the perfect spot for a festive photo op!

Mistletoe & More at Market Square Park | 📍 301 Milam
With colorful lights galore and an eye-catching Christmas tree, this little neighborhood park makes you feel like you’re walking in a winter wonderland — minus the 80-degree weather, of course. Oh, and did we mention Texas’ largest mistletoe ball? Pucker up with the one(s) you love and share your photos using #XOMistletoe!

Deck the Trees at George R. Brown | 📍 1001 Avenida de las Americas
The Alley’s annual “Deck the Trees” event is taking over George R. Brown Convention Center this year! Stop by through January 3, 2021 to peep trees trimmed by Houston’s top designers that transform the windows along Avenida de las Americas into a scenic sight á la the Macy’s windows in NYC. Keep in mind, the trees are lit from 5 PM to 10 PM.

The ICE at Discovery Green | 📍 1500 McKinney
We may not get a White Christmas in Houston, but thanks to Discovery Green we can still lace up some skates and glide under the stars. The ICE is the perfect place to capture your holiday festivities!

Texas Winter Lights at Marriott Marquis | 📍1777 Walker Photo
Who says you can’t have a photo shoot in the sky? The inaugural Texas Winter Lights at the Marriott Marquis boasts tons of twinkling lights and decorative sets surrounding their Texas-shaped lazy river. FYI, you will need to purchase a ticket to access the poolside extravaganza.

City Hall Christmas Tree | 📍 901 Bagby
Another gorgeous place oozing with Christmas spirit? City Hall! Striking a pose with the tree at Hermann Square is a classic way to spread your Christmas cheer.

Hou-Ville | 📍 Bayou Music Centre, 520 Texas
Downtown Houston has no shortage of holiday pop-ups this year! Channel your inner Cindy Lou Who and head to Hou-Ville [aka 40 Below] —  a holiday-themed pop-up bringing a Whoville-meets-Houston environment to #DTHTX. Noteworthy photo ops include a cozy set-up by the fireplace, festive foodie finds and socially distanced Santa on his sleigh.

Jingled-Up | 📍 711 Main
Immerse yourself in a world of joy at Jingled-Up! This themed pop-up bar offers an Insta-worthy space to get elfed-up this holiday season. Show your Christmas spirit with a seasonal shoot featuring a tower of presents, a North Pole swing and more!
