40th Annual State of Downtown Highlights Houston's Future
Central Houston, Inc. unveils future-shaping projects in Downtown Houston
In October, our partners and community came together to hear about sensational transformations that will help build and shape the character of Downtown Houston.
From evolutions of retail space to illuminating art projects, here are some key highlights:
🌿GreenStreet Revitalization – Major upgrades are coming to the four-block mixed-use district, including solar panel installations, lush landscaping and an alleyway flanked by local dining and nightlife destinations.
👀Main Street Promenade – The historic heart of Downtown will transform into Houston’s first pedestrian promenade, with expanded public spaces, shaded walkways, and street-level experiences. Set to open by the 2026 World Cup.
🎨Mural Illuminations – As part of a new lighting plan, Downtown’s Big Art. Bigger Change murals will soon shine through the night, offering more time to explore and enjoy our outdoor art gallery.
🥐Petite Lucie – A new all-day French-inspired bistro by Chef Omar Pereney is coming to Market Square Park next spring, bringing a revamped outdoor dining experience to the historic green space.
🎓UHD at Launchpad – University of Houston-Downtown is expanding into the city’s core with a new education hub at Downtown Launchpad, which will house its Criminal Justice Data Analysis Center.
👟Pedestrian Pathway Art – Vibrant, art-filled designs are in progress for Downtown’s busiest underpasses, offering engaging experiences for Astros fans, convention-goers and more.
Mayor John Whitmire shared his enthusiasm for what’s ahead in Downtown, while keynote speaker General Stan McChrystal delivered an inspiring talk on how to transform teams to tackle new challenges.
