Construction Updates
The Main Street Promenade is currently under construction, to be completed by June 2026.
Blocks under construction will be closed to vehicular traffic; pedestrian access will remain open.
Current Blocks Under Construction
- West side of Main Street blocks 500, 600, and 700
- East side of Main Street blocks 700, and 600
Substantially Complete Blocks
- West side of blocks 100, 300 and 400
- East side of block 100
"Substantially Complete" means expanded walkways are open and roadway construction is finished. Final touches like landscaping, shade structures and other enhancements will continue through later phases.

How long will construction last?
Construction began on June 2, 2025 and is planned to finish in time for the FIFA Men's World Cup in June 2026.
Will I be able to access buildings on Main Street?
You will be able to access buildings on Main Street. Business access will be guaranteed except for special circumstances. When such situations arise, we'll work directly with business owners to find solutions.
While routes to buildings and building access may change over the course of construction, businesses should remain open. Most of our work will focus on the former roadway, but there will be times when additional work is needed to build the Promenade.
Rest assured, our team is working closely with property owners and businesses to coordinate and minimize any disruptions.

Will the whole street be closed?
No. Construction will occur in phases, closing only a few blocks at a time.
What hours will construction be happening?
Construction is primarily scheduled between 7am and 7pm, Monday through Saturday. Work may occasionally take place on Sundays to stay on schedule. If urgent issues come up, crews may also work overnight.
Who is leading this project?
Downtown Houston+ is leading this effort to transform Main Street. The project is funded by a federal grant through Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) and the Downtown Redevelopment Authority (DRA/TIRZ #3). After completion, the Promenade will be managed and maintained by the Houston Downtown Management District (HDMD).
